I'm so excited that you've decided to join me for this 30 Day Craft Challenge! You should have already received a packet of papers in your inbox that you'll need for this challenge. If you didn't, check your inbox or your junk/spam for it. (Or perhaps you made it to this page by mistake and never saw the sign up page. Here it is, if you still need to sign up.)
Congratulations! TODAY IS DAY ONE of your 30 Day Craft Challenge!
For "Day 1" I've chosen an inspirational prompt that is near and dear to my heart. Humans generate so much TRASH. But one man's trash really can be another man's treasure, and if we all did a little more to save the planet, we might all have a brighter future. So for Day 1, I've chosen "Upcycled or Re-Purposed".
Find something OLD and make it into something NEW!

This copy of Twice Told Tales makes the perfect upcycled Book Clock, don't you think? I found the 100+ year old book at a flea market and (after making sure it wasn't a priceless edition) dug in with my craft knife! It was so so hard to cut such a treasure, but it's even MORE of a treasure to me now! One of my absolute FAVORITE upcycles I've ever done!.
I made this lovely terrarium for some friends for their anniversary, using photo frames that were actually used AT their wedding reception! This project is EASY, fast, and oh-so-pretty when finished! I recommend using some low maintenance air plants (I found mine on Amazon.com) or succulents in yours, then set it on a shelf, display it on a table, or give it to a friend to enjoy!
Do you collect and save your cardstock scraps? If you don't -- you should! There are SO many great things you can do with scraps! Handmade paper is one of my very favorite use for all those tiiiny little bits! You can even add in FLOWER SEEDS! Use your seeded paper to make all sorts of fun things, like bookmarks, greeting cards, and tags! Just sort your paper bits by color -- or don't -- and follow the steps in *this* easy tutorial!
If you'd like some more ideas for ways to use your paper scraps, don't miss *this* blog post. It's full of ideas that you can use over and over in your crafting!
Have any empty wine bottles laying around? Here's the perfect project to use them on! You can create this vase in just a few minutes, it's really easy to do! These are so handy to be able to make -- they hold a small bouquet perfectly and are great for sharing for any old reason at all -- no special holiday required! Just grab a hand full of wild flowers, a couple of tulips, some daisies, whatever you have on hand, and share a beautiful vase of flowers with someone!
Here's an upcycle project that you can use your old wooden game tiles on as well as paper scraps and even old book pages! These are decorated with leftover bits of cardstock and a dictionary page, and sealed to protect. They make great necklaces, wine glass charms, and even key chains! Here's the tutorial to show you all the steps. They won't take you very long to make, and are super budget friendly, so you can make them for aaallll of your friends without breaking the bank!
For my Upcycle Project, I decided to make some GIFT TAGS with paper scraps. I decided on gift tags because it's definitely something we'll need with 30 days of handmade projects! I don't know about you, but I plan to give a lot of what I make over the next month, to friends and family throughout the year. :)
If you're following along with that, you can keep track of all your makes, who they're for, and when you need to give them by. There are even monthly organizational labels, so you can store all your makes, in organized fashion, to give later in the year. I recommend making a box for each month, and then adding the gifts you make that are to be given during that month, to the box. Then you can open each box a week or so before the month begins, and mail/give out your gifts! The Crafter's Planner Bundle also has a 2 page layout specifically for today's project, so don't forget to fill *that* out! There's room to add a couple of small pictures each day too, so snap some shots of your work and make a keepsake as you go! If you use a Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera, your Mini Instant pics will fit PERFECTLY! Otherwise trim your snaps to about 2.1" x 3.4".
Follow along during this challenge with the printable Crafter's Planner Bundle! There's lots of room for planning and organizing your projects, plus by the time you're done, you'll have a keepsake journal of your journey!
These tags turned out so cute! They measure 1.5" x 2" each, and are going to be perfect to add to gifts with a little bit of ribbon or string. I made about 2 dozen for my Upcycle/Re-purpose craft using only items I had in my paper scraps bin, plus a little adhesive. (A combination of Glue Dots, liquid PVA glue, and 3D foam adhesive squares.)
