Guest Contributor Guidelines and Tips

Thanks for your interest to be on our website!! We love featuring bright, creative artists on our site, whether for a tutorial spotlight or even to showcase handmade items that you sell! Please read over our rules and tips, and submit the short Guest Blogger Agreement at the end!

**Please note that although we'd *like* to, we can't feature everyone one our site. We have specific guidelines for contributed posts and all posts must be approved first by me, Lindsay, the owner of The Scrap Room. Please submit your request to be featured on our site at the bottom of this page. You will hear back from me usually within a week.**

Tell us a little about yourself! It'd be great if you could write up a short bio about yourself/company. What do you do? How did you get started? Even a picture or two or a head shot would be awesome! Our fans want a chance to get to know you!

Catchy Title and short 1-2 sentence summary - No Click Bait! Something that genuinely draws the reader in from the value of your post/blog.

Be sure to proof read and spell check your article.  You don’t want to look unprofessional and neither do I. Be sure to read through your article for errors. (You’ll get a chance to look over the finished page before we share the link too.)

Content should be at least 800 words. Be sure to include an introduction, main body, and conclusion, and use some good key words to help out the organic traffic through search engines. Type up your blog/post and add <PICTURE NAME HERE> within the body of your text to let me know where you want the text broken and specific pictures added in. To add a video, send me a link to your already published video, or the code to embed it. Type <ADD VIDEO> in the text where you want the video to be. Please type your post directly into your email to us, attaching any pictures or video links to it as well.

Please submit a post that is not published already on another website. Our readers love fresh content. Please make the post that you share with them unique, and not one that you've submitted to another site or posted on your own page. It's okay to re-purpose content, for example, use pics from a project you've recently done. But the end article needs to be "new".

Interested in posting a series? If you have several posts you’d like to share for a series, that’s great too! Just let us know in your email with the post!

Do not plagiarize! I don't feel I need to explain this one -- it's pretty obvious. Just don't do it.

Include at least one high resolution, feature image. Tutorials MUST include at least 1 photo of the item/tutorial in process along with the "Final" image.

Do not hard sell an item without permission! It's one thing to sell, say a template, that goes with a project you're posting about, but please don't make the page "spammy" by adding in sales links that don't apply. Keep links to a minimum. 1-2 related "Sales" links period. Please DO include links to any of your social media pages or website, so we can incorporate links and widgets into the post.

All topics/posts must be approved by Lindsay, the owner of The Scrap Room.  My readers trust me, and know I won't share anything with them that I'm not fully behind. If for any reason I feel your post would not be a good fit for my site or readers, I reserve the right to not publish it, or remove it, at any time.

When will the post "go live"? After you’ve submitted your post, pictures, and links, you'll receive a confirmation from us.  After approval it will take 1-2 weeks to get everything ready to go. When your page is finished, we’ll send you a link for review. Once everything is good to go, we can both share the links on our social media outlets.  The Scrap Room is on Facebook, and has two online groups: TSR’s Craft Chat and Scrapbook WorkshopWe’re also on Pinterest and have recently joined the Instagram community. Please follow us where applicable and we’ll do the same!  If your business fits on any of our Pinterest Boards and you’d like to be added as a contributor, please follow the board on Pinterest if you haven’t already, and send us a direct message asking to be added.

We also send out an e-newsletter several times a month and will spotlight your feature in that. If you’d like to subscribe, click here to sign up!

In addition to our social media and e-newsletter, we’ll also share a link to the post on our homepage for at least 2 weeks, as well as post a thumbnail image and short summary about your post on applicable category landing pages in our Tutorial Library. We may also choose to link to the post in our future e-books, Round-Up style blogs or in other marketing down the road.

Please email all text, pictures and video links to me at TheScrapRoom@hotmail.com or Lindsay@The-Scrap-Room.com and fill out the Guest Contributor Agreement at the bottom of this page.

After Submitting Your Article, get ready to share the link with your audience! Tell them about it early, and let them know to watch for it! Tag us in any social media posts and we’ll tag you as well! After you’ve submitted your post to us, we’ll write you back within a week or so and give you an anticipated Publish Date so you can pass the info on to your viewers!

The Fine Print

I understand there is no monetary compensation to be made for publication of articles through The Scrap Room.

I agree to submit only my own original work/post (with appropriate citations) that is not, and will not be, published anywhere else online or otherwise. (It's okay to write a Different post on the same project for your page or another website, it just can't be "the same article".)

I understand that nothing herein shall be deemed to constitute a partnership or joint venture between The Scrap Room and guest contributor. In entering into this Agreement, and in providing services pursuant hereto, contributor has and shall have the status of an independent contractor and nothing herein contained shall contemplate or constitute an agent or employee relationship and neither Guest Contributor nor The Scrap Room shall have any authority to bind the other in any way.

This license shall continue to be in full force and effect even in the event that this agreement fails to be renewed or is terminated for any reason.

Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this contract, or the breach thereof, shall be settled by arbitration, administered in accordance with the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association, administered by a licensed Arbitrator in the jurisdiction closest to The Scrap Room's primary office and the arbitration award may be entered for judgment in any court having jurisdiction thereof. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may refuse to arbitrate when the dispute is for a sum less than $ 500. In no event shall an award in an arbitration initiated under this clause exceed the contracted price of the controversy in dispute.

If either party to this Contract brings a legal action against the other party to this Contract to secure the specific performance of this Contract, collect damages for breach of this Contract, or otherwise enforce or interpret this Contract, the prevailing party shall recover reasonable attorney’s fees and all costs, premiums for bonds, fees, and other expenses expended or incurred in the action in addition to any other relief that may be awarded.

The Guest Contributor understands that all materials, price lists, contracts, financial documents, agreements, and other information or documents that are given to them in the scope of the assigned date are the exclusive property of The Scrap Room and are privileged and confidential information. The Contributor agrees not to reveal this information to anyone.

This Agreement incorporates the entire understanding of the parties. Any modifications of this Agreement must be in writing and signed by both parties. Any waiver of a breach or default hereunder shall not be deemed a waiver of a subsequent breach or default of either the same provision or any other provision of this Agreement. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Washington.

If any provision of this agreement shall be held illegal, unenforceable, invalid or otherwise incapable of being enforced, in any judicial proceeding, then such provision shall be excluded to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability and the remainder of this agreement shall remain operative and binding; and, to the extent possible, the invalid or unenforceable term shall be deemed replaced by a term that is valid and enforceable, provided that such term comes closest to expressing the intention of the parties at the time of this agreement.
